St. Louis Comedy Connection continues to offer their most popular classes, as well as adding new ones to our curriculum! Students can visit their website or “like” them on facebook.com/stlcomedyconnection to keep informed of the latest class offerings and other events. Classes are held at the Cherokee Place Business Incubator, 2715 Cherokee Street, St. Louis, Missouri 63118. Each class is limited to 10 students, so early registration is recommended at www.stlcomedyconnection.com. Online registrants also receive a $25 discount off the regular price of $125. Classes run for four (4) consecutive weeks.
New students may choose from two of our most popular introductory classes, being offered this term:
Introduction to Improvisation is designed for those who have never taken an improv class before, as well as those who have minimal experience. The basic rules of improvisation are stressed while students learn various improv performance games, in preparation for a student showcase. This class is a great way to build confidence, meet new people in a fun atmosphere and build a strong foundation for more advanced improv classes. Students have so much fun in this class; they take it again and again.
Introduction to Improvisation offers two sessions to choose from! The Sunday sessions meet from 3:00-5:00 p.m. from September 16 through October 7, plus Student Showcase. The Wednesday sessions meet from 7:30-9:30 p.m. from September 19 through October 10, plus Student Showcase. There are no prerequisites.
Stand-up Comedy One offers an introduction to stand-up comedy writing and performing. For both beginners and comedians with some experience, this class teaches how to get started, how to improve material and how to become a better stand-up. Tips will also be shared on how to get started in the St. Louis comedy scene! This class is recommended for adults who have always wanted to try stand-up, but weren’t sure how to get started. Stand-up Comedy One meets from 7:30-9:30pm on Tuesday, September 18 through October 9, plus Student Showcase. There are no prerequisites.
Returning students, who have already completed the Introduction to Improvisation class, or other experienced improvisers, may choose from two new classes that will be offered this term.
Stage Performance meets Sunday from 3:00-5:00 p.m from September 16 through October 7, plus Student Showcase. This class shows students how to effectively connect with an audience. The course includes: making strong entrances and exits, learning when to give focus and when to take it, as well making scenes more visually interesting in a live performance. This class is recommended for students who have completed the Introduction to Improvisation class and are interested in performing in future shows.
Genres of Improv (Too) meets Wednesdays from 7:30-9:30 p.m. from September 19 through October 10, plus Student Showcase. Some of the common genre suggestions taken from audience members, including: Superheroes, Romance, themed-cable shows (such as ESPN, MTV), and playwrights, will be covered. This class builds on skills explored in Genres One (although Genres One is not a prerequisite) and is recommended for students who have completed the Introduction to Improvisation class.
