On Friday, September 21st, Cherokee Station Business Association held (PARK)ing Day on Cherokee Street.  Three different parks were setup throughout the street, all in an effort to promote urban green space and community.

Scarlett GarnetArt Monster & Tikal collaborated on a park at 2619 Cherokee.  Colorful yarn hung from the trees, musicians performed and  Tikal offered free cookies and coffee.  Siete Luminarias‘s strawberry and lime Agua Fresca was a refreshing treat on such a beautiful day.  At The Cherokee Street International Farmer’s Market a hammock was set up for those looking for a relaxing place to read or take a nap.  Later in the afternoon, John Warlock  and Stephanie Co played some great tunes, while veggies from the market were cooked up on the grill.

Thank you to everyone who participated on this amazing event.  It was a great opportunity to meet neighbors, enjoy the weather and  get outside!  Thanks to Bayer’s Garden Shop & South Side Garden Shop, Hoods Discount Home Center  and Colors of Spring Landscaping for donating AstroTurf, sod, flowers and shrubbery for the event.

“A refreshing polar opposite of the kind of strip mall corporate retail you will find in the county. There is certainly nothing cookie cutter about Cherokee.”
