Cherokee News Returns

Cherokee News - St. Louis Post Dispatch

Inspired by the “Cherokee News” insert that used to fill the Sunday edition of the Post Dispatch in the neighborhood’s heyday, cherokeestreetnews.org brings the news of the street back to the people –catalyzing and publicizing the connections that are restoring these blocks– bit by bit, brick by brick.

Collectively administered and edited by neighborhood residents, the site is a strategy to increase awareness of and direct participation in the grassroots efforts that distinguish our unique community.

“The beauty of the maturation of Cherokee Street over the past couple of months is that it has not shown a familiar trajectory for a St. Louis revitalization. There are no posh nightclubs with "pioneer" status nor any ultra-elite art galleries present.

Rather, there's an organized community dedicated to improving quality of life and maintaining the uniqueness of St. Louis's most diverse and urban business district.”
