Two delighted recipients of school supply donations.

Two delighted recipients of school supply donations.

The Franciscan Connection, 2903 Cherokee, will again be hosting its annual Back-to-School Drive to equip disadvantaged south city kids for their first day back in the classroom.  They are now accepting paper, notebooks, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, rulers, and other basic supplies to help kids get off to a good start.  Especially needed this year are backpacks for boys and girls of all ages.

Last year, the friars and volunteers distributed over 800 kits to children right here in the Dutchtown, Gravois Park, Benton Park West, Marine Villa and surrounding south city neighborhoods.

Graffiti Man Caught Red-Handed

David Reeves (AKA ShiniGami) was arrested Friday around 5pm after officers observed the work below in progress on the side of 2613 Cherokee (there’s another “fuck” at the back of the building for good measure.) Similar fuckmarks were also seen on 2315 Cherokee in Antique Row.

This is the same individual who wrote “Not Art” over the Obama Wall at 2643 Cherokee and the shamrock at 2608 Cherokee back in March.

24 years after creating the 13 foot Indian at Cherokee & Jefferson, sculptor Bill Christman recently returned to give the statue a fresh coat of paint.

Thanks Bill!
